Forum for the Future

In autumn 2009, Forum for the Future enlisted the help of MA Fashion and the Environment to assist in their upcoming publication Fashion Futures 2025. This involved the distribution of future scenarios to which a sustainable fashion business/service was to be created in groups.

Slow and disconnected was the scenario my group was given to which we formulated a design challenge: how to create local communities through fashion? We settled on a clothing library system entitled Topswap (which for licensing reasons was transformed into Swapshop) that through every aspect of the lifecycle of the garment involved the public. For example, the public could work out in the gym to power the washing process.

I focused on the aftercare of garments (returned loaned items) and how they would eventually reach the shop (swap) floor. Below are posters I created to explain various processes. See also the link to the Forum for the Future website where the report can be downloaded.
